| Liz
majored in Art at Meredith College, Raleigh, NC. She has been
successful both as an artist and an art educator. She taught for over 25
years, privately and mostly in public schools, retiring from D.W. Daniel
High School in Central, SC in 1986. In 1976 she was named the South
Carolina Teacher of the Year, the first art teacher to have received
this award. In 2003 she won the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Arts in
Education Award. She has continued to be actively involved in the South
Carolina Art Education Association and the National Art Education
Association, making presentations and giving hands-on workshops over the
past 20 years. She has exhibited and won awards in many juried shows. She and her artist son (whom she taught in high school) shared a two-person show at the Pickens County Museum of Art in 2000, "Liz and Jed - A Mother/Son Exhibition." Her alma mater, Meredith College, honored her with a one-person show in 2002. In 2008 she exhibited 40 of her works in an exhibit entitled "Art an Soul" at the Blue Ridge Arts Council Center in Seneca, S.C. She works primarily in watercolors, but enjoys working also in mixed media. She keeps her sketchbook and camera handy wherever she goes, especially when traveling in other countries. Her favorite subjects are people. She is a member with Excellence of the SCWS.
