Near the close of a thirty-five–year teaching career in a suburb
of Buffalo, NY, Lynda returned to her long-postponed love of
painting. A member of the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society
and the Fine Arts League of Buffalo, she had begun to exhibit
work in Western New York shows and galleries when she retired
and relocated to South Carolina.
Retirement would allow her to devote more time to painting. She
found that the little town of McCormick had attracted several
excellent artists who had built successful lifelong careers as
professional artists, illustrators and college art teachers.
Ingrid Hofer, Clint Scott and Bill Updegraff have all
contributed to the development of her work. Their guidance and
encouragement stimulated her in new directions. Suzanna Winton’s
workshops in watercolor portraits were also invaluable.
Lynda’s paintings have been included in numerous state-wide
competitions and a national exhibition, as well as local juried
shows, and she has won various awards. Her work is part of many
private collections. She is a member of the South Carolina
Watermedia Society, the Georgia Watercolor Society and the Aiken
Artist Guild. Specializing in watercolor and acrylics, her
subject matter ranges from the architectural to florals,
landscapes, portraits, and animals. Much of her work is
commissioned, which provides her with a wide variety of subjects
and new challenges. “Variety is the spice of life,” after all.
Lynda has always used her own photographs as references for her
paintings, and has recently begun exhibiting and selling her
photos.
