Abstracting the Expressive Statement
Marilyn Hughey Phillis
This is a class of discovery, encouraging the strengthening
of artistic statement through abstraction. Students should be
self directed, but those needing more guidance are welcome. All
will receive suggestions for developing their unique, expressive
talent which may include watermedia and collage. Emphasis will
be on releasing the inner spirit of the artist through their
work, strong design, importance of content and imaginative use
of materials. Lectures, discussions, slides demos and critiques
will be woven into class time.

Based on the Figure
Carla O'Connor
This workshop
stresses bold composition and strong design using the human

morning. Abstraction will be explored emphasizing the process

working with watercolor and gouache and include frequent mini

Design
and Energy in Watercolor
Frank Webb
In this session, each day begins with a demonstration of how
a subject is conceived and designed. He uses a different
procedure with each daily demonstration, such as: how to divide
paper, interpreting and recreating tonal values, shape making,
and creating expressive color. After the demo, he is available
for consultation. Each day concludes with an
appraisal/appreciation of each participant’s work.
