Seymour Simmons has been a
faculty member at Winthrop University for 14 years. He has a B.F.A. from
Colorado State University as well as masters and doctoral degrees from
Harvard. He is also the co-author of Drawing: the Creative Process,
Simon and Schuster, 1976. In addition, Dr. Simmons, with Dr. Peg
DeLamater and Martine Simmons, also from Winthrop, leads painting and
art history workshops in France including one this summer, 2008
Winthrop University’s Department of Fine Art will offer it’s third
Painting and Art History trip to France from June 16 through July 1,
2008. The trip begins in Paris with visits to the Louvre, the Orsay
Museum (19th century art including Impressionism),Notre Dame, etc. We
then travel to Normandy stopping at Giverny to visit Monet’s home and
garden. In Normandy, we will stay in a restored 18th century chateau n
and enjoy plein air painting, home-made French cuisine, and excursions
to nearby sites like Bayeux to see the famous tapestry, the D-Day
invasion beaches, the picturesque port town of Honfleur, and Caen with
its gothic cathedral and the castle of William the Conqueror. Cost:
$3000 (with possible adjustment due to currency exchange, etc.), which
includes airfare from Charlotte, all ground transportation, hotel and
breakfast in Paris, room and most meals in Normandy. To insure a place,
please send an application and a deposit of $500 (refundable) preferably
by January 15, 2008, or as soon as possible after that date.
Painting and Art History courses may be taken for credit through
Winthrop University (Tuition is not included in the cost). For more
