Plejs
View of Plejs on your left, originally the Rock Hill Cotton Factory. It was the first mill built in the city of Rock Hill and was put into operation in 1881. It was also the first steam powered textile mill in the State of South Carolina. Historical accounts (City of Cobwebs) indicate that the mill was built with money collected from the citizens of Rock Hill, rather than a private individual or corporation footing the bill.
Tour
View from bridge. Continue down Oakland Avenue going away from town.
Update
Plejs left the building in 2001. It remained vacant until 2006 when an investment group began a 14 million dollar renovation. Now called the Cotton Factory, once more, the building has been fully restored and is home to several businesses.
